Microbiota Research

Study by Artificial Intelligence of the effect of Nutrition and Lifestyle on the composition of the Microbiota and their impact on Inflammatory Bowel Disease

How our project started

Take a moment to read this compelling letter from one of our researchers. Not only is he a seasoned software and Deep Learning engineer, but he's also been navigating life with Ulcerative Colitis for nearly three decades:

"Driven by my passion for intensive sports like running and mountaineering, and my condition as an Ulcerative Colitis patient, I've learned to eat consciously and better. Over the years, I've come to believe that good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle have significantly impacted the long-term progression of my disease. Now, we aim to transform this belief into scientific evidence to benefit others."

Summary

Our research hypothesis states that by implementing comprehensive dietary and lifestyle interventions, we can positively modulate the gut microbiota's composition. This could enhance its interaction with the immune system and promote anti-inflammatory responses, offering a potential pathway to better manage Inflammatory Bowel Disease over a patient's lifetime.

Impact of Results

If our hypothesis is confirmed, the benefits of the project would be huge: better control of the disease, reduction in the most expensive components of Ulceratice Colitis (UC) care, increase in the quality of life and reduction in the levels of anxiety and depression, and reduction in the UC long-term complications. Diet and lifestyle intervention would empower patients to cope with their disease by providing them with a tool that they could actively use on a day-to-day basis.
